Fantasy Judgment

Based on the title of this article, you may think I am going to write about the low expectations for the Mets this coming season.  And while the outlook does look bleak for 2011, I am not going to focus on that right now.  There is plenty of time to delve into what the Mets are lacking and why they shouldn’t expect to finish .500 this year.  Instead, this article is about the Mets’ poor history of developing, keeping, and properly evaluating prospects.  I was inspired to write this by the Mets’ recent signing of Jason Isringhausen to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.  In case you didn’t know, Isringhausen began his pro career on the Mets as a hyped prospect back in the mid-1990’s.  Now 16 years later, he is looking for one last run in the big leagues with the team he broke in…
