We all know the story, on a day in August the Atomic Age began when a lone B-29 Superfortress named the Enola Gay destroyed most of the city of Hiroshima with a single bomb.
The man who ordered the strike, new United States President Harry S Truman, had little choice. The war in the Pacific had started bad and gotten worse. While his predecessor, Franklin Roosevelt had put the country in a position where it couldn’t lose, it was not quite ready to win yet either.
Truman, a Great War Artillery Soldier, probably had heard of the theory of an atomic bomb but to find out the US had a few functioning ones was surely a mind blowing revelation. After a couple of days wrapping his mind around the concept he had to consider a bunch of other thorny issues too.
The idea that the bomb would be dropped on a city that was mostly military in nature was the idea, but lets face it a city is a city. Cities are full of women and children and all manner of non combatants. So it was going to be a punishing and cruel strike.
That the Americans couldn’t lose the war was pretty obvious to the Imperial Japanese. Theyd bitten off more than they could chew and after stunning initial success the US had pounded them into near submission. Still, they were game to keep fighting. They were never going to win but they weren’t as close to the brink of defeat as some historians like to say. They coud have held out for a couple of more years at the expense of their civilians if their own crazy plans are any indication. And just because they were now a minimal threat we weren’t about to just walk away with an apology. Too much had happened. This was WAR!
How could a nation shattered by years of total war still be in the game? The Empire had become ruthless even to it’s own. There were soldiers, child soldiers, suicide soldiers, child suicide soldiers and everything in between.
Some historians have argued that the dropping of the Atomic was an unnecessary slaughter. While it’s a compelling argument the facts are Truman’s hands were tied and cuffed on this. The reasons Truman had no choice but to drop the Bomb range from the mundane to the sublime and only really made sense in 1945.
Here’s a few of the hard facts the Anti-Truman Anti-Bomb Historians are overlooking.
Several Paths to a Bomb
Dropping the bomb is viewed as the biggest decision of 1945, the truth is dropping the bomb was the biggest decision of every year from the moment the war starts.
Everyone is aware we had two bombs, Fat Man and Little Boy. What gets lost is that these bombs, and the third path Germany follows for a while using Heavy Water, required completely different teams and parallel facilities. Even better, no one can say for sure any of them will work. Early on it looked like the German method seems best, probably because they had something of a head start.
Here’s where the German’s really squander their Human Capital with Racist Theories. The Heavy Water guys were just the ones who passed racial muster. The rest of the people working on atomic power in Germany were jewish or just hated the Nazi’s and split. There’s a whole book in how Hitler lost the war just by chasing away the geniuses who would produce the American Bomb (with much notable help).
Franklin Roosevelt shows amazing judgement and immense resolve. Hearing of the possibilities and potential of an Atomic Bomb he first tosses the Heavy Water method away out of hand. He then greenlights TWO development projects; one for each remaining bomb making method. He couldn’t care less about the costs he was scared of the Germans making one first and like a shrewd gambler he split his hand and doubled down. It worked, but only after years of money sucking trials and work. Not everyone loved this idea, but FDR was a badass. He put the Manhattan Project in motion.
War Bonds, War Bonds, War Bonds
The Manhattan Project cost no less than 2 BILLION dollars in 1945. This would be about 27 Trillion dollars according to the inflation calculator I found.
What does this mean? Well we would never have been short of things like advanced landing craft for the Pacific Island Hopping campaigns. A small convoy of aircraft carriers, or literally hundreds of destroyers.
Maybe the only reason so much money was spent on one project was simply because more money wouldn’t have cranked anything out any faster. Industrial capacity was pretty well maximized.
Throughout the war the United States Government had asked the people of America to sacrifice. People were getting by better than Europe and probably better than during the Depression, but there was privation. Add to this the non stop Patriotic propaganda they were subjected to no matter what movie they went to. The average American felt like they had a stake in the war even if no one they really knew was fighting (unlikely).
Japan’s Last Gambit Backfires
Fortune favors to the brave, or so the Imperial Japanese thought. The sheer bravery, gallantry isn’t the word, of the Japanese in the closing months of the war was on the upswing despite the situation. As the US waged its planned penultimate invasion, in Okinawa, the Empire pulled out all the stops.
the thinking of the Imperial Military Staff was that a decisive engagement was needed before negotiations could begin or Japan would get terrible terms. Okinawa made Normandy look easy. You’re chances of surviving Normandy were also a whole lot better no matter where or when you landed. Instead of a Longest Day many Interminable Weeks passed.
The Imperial Japanese shocked the already hardcore Americans with savage waves of kamikaze attacks. On the island the landings were initially unopposed, that soon changed as casualties began to mount. The Imperial Navy joined in the kamikaze spirit and suffered incredible losses.
Any decent documentary on Okinawa provides plenty of oral histories from American and Japanese survivors attesting to the savagery of the battle. Most accounts speak of a blurring of the lines between civilians and soldiers that sounds more like Vietnam horror stories than anything from World War Two. Civilians had been militarized and that included the children I mentioned earlier. It was estimated about 150,000 citizens would participate in resistance. Having seen the child soldiers in Europe no one was in the mood for that again.
The Americans found nothing but unsettling things on Okinawa. Death ran rampant among the US ranks taking even noted war journalist Ernie Pyle was killed during the operation. A mass of civilian suicides was witnessed by many Americans. One man suicide subs and other crazy last resort weapons turned up and had their desired effect without being used- they scared the Hell out of the American brass.
The endless storm of kamikaze’s cant be understated. In one engagement 2 hit the carrier Bunker Hill in 30 seconds. It was only saved by the sheer heroism of her crew. And many other ships fared much worse. The Navy was in danger of not being able to fully support the landings. Expectations had to be scaled back as the Japanese gut punched America over and over, putting the giant on the ropes but never knocking him out. Finally, punched out and exhausted the Americans summoned a knock out blow and took a breath.
Despite ultimately achieving victory, between D-Day on April 1st til they finally won on June 22nd the Americans and their Allies such as their were suffered 50,000 casualties. The Japanese lost 100,000 in military deaths alone.
The Japanese High Command had achieved what they wanted. The Americans couldn’t have been more scared. That much they predicted correctly, how they would handle it was something they didn’t do quite so good at angering.
Firestorms From The Sky
The Air War against Japan benefitted from a new invention in 1945, napalm. This coincided with the Japanese decentralizing their war manufacturing across entire cities. So we burned those cities to ash. The civilian casualties in these raids was astronomical, We had done stuff as bad in Europe, but only a couple of times. We sort of went crazy on the Japanese. Hey, we thought we were going to invade! The firebomb attacks produce staggering civilian casualty levels, some higher than the atomic attacks. They were still looking for terms.
By the middle of 1945 the US had Air Superiority if not Air Supremacy all over the islands of Japan and the surrounding waters. The city buster campaign was highly successful. It didn’t stop the Japanese from fighting back as best they could and it definitely wasn’t getting them to feel bad enough for their own people to surrender.
With Okinawa fallen rather than make a realistic peace-offering the Japanese war cabinet was thinking about terms as insane as trying their own war criminals. They don’t have what they once had but they can still keep the Kamikaze’s coming and other crazy and scary attack methods as doomed as they were novel. From the US perspective things had just gotten worse. the writing was on the wall, we had to take the home islands to end this thing.
So don’t let anyone tell you they were trying in good faith to get things we ultimately gave them. This was a society fracturing. It’s cities are in ruins, everyone knows someone whose died. The government was getting by on sheer patriotism and the peoples fear and hatred of the Americans (who were actually destroying their cities all the time).
And then there was the way the war against Japan was sold to the American people.
US Homefront Propaganda and Mindset
FDR was a great president who will forever wear the shame of locking up a bunch of Americans (the west coast Japanese) for the way they were born. And he set the tone.
While we ended up winning World War Two can best be described as a total fucking disaster where the brutality was unprecedented. The U is only in for three and a half years and its a bloodbath every minute. Telegrams from the War Department informing of the loss of a friend or loved one were a feared but daily reality. By the end people are pissed. And on December 7th 1941 it probably seemed like it would last 10 years.
Starting from the ineptitude of Pear Harbor and MacArthur’s initial inaction blowing up on him the war in the Pacific was complicated by outright racism of the kind usually ascribed to 19th century British Colonial Commands. They just did not respect the enemy like they did the Germans. The Germans were shown as a bunch of crazy hostile people. The Japanese were shown as a bunch of crazy hostile ANIMALS.
The America of 1945 had to be lived in to truly comprehend, but it was a world with very little air conditioning. Heat could be a problem too. The three biggest bargains (aside from booze) was vaudeville, a baseball game (if you lived in the right city) or the movies. All cost about the same and lasted several hours. The theaters were heated and air conditioned. And you bought a ticket to watch movies all day sometimes, especially on the weekends.
From the cartoons in at the beginning to the newsreels that presaged our modern TV news the War and anti-Enemy propaganda was there. Imagine a day like this- about 11 you hit the movie theater. They show a Bugs Bunny or Disney cartoon themed to the war, sometimes its racist as all Hell. Thats a half hour of fun. Then perhaps a brief recruiting film. Then there would be a newsreel showing American winning but dying and suffering none the less. The an episode of “Why We Fight”, perhaps the most sophisticated piece of American Homefront Propaganda. Then you might see “Back to Bataan” or any number of mediocre patriotic wallet openers for the pitch for War Bonds. Then a second movie, hopefully escapist, though its still going to feature the war as a trying but just cause. Think “It’s a Wonderful Life” or even “Mr Lucky”, which is a guilt trip to motivate slick guys and semi criminals to change their ways and join the military for the big win. Hollywood went to war too.
Harry Truman doesn’t seem to massively disagree with what Hollywood put out there, though he was sort of less racist than say Trump is now in his speeches and interviews for sure. He probably largely agreed with Hollywood’s image of the Japanese but had the perspective of knowing we’re not going to lose from the moment he takes office. He also knows Japan just isn’t quite done and isn’t really on the brink of defeat short of a costly invasion.
He also had the problem of how the two wars were sold. The Germans were shown as the greater threat. FDR had beaten them, what was taking Truman so long with the perceived second rate Japanese? They couldn’t see well and were no match physically for the average American (per the military and Hollywood). Their image of being strange with crazy religious beliefs was just the way it was by the end of the war.
And they were also shown as vicious. It was a different world. I’m not saying it was right but hey, there was a national paranoia from the beginning of the war where it looks like we will likely lose!
Then there’s the real atrocities. Its a different blog post for another time. The bottom line is with few exceptions the Imperial Japanese were very bit as mean and murderous as the Nazis. They were using some form of fascism for their government, which was a twisted version of Britain’s.
In fact if you think of the Japanese as modelling themselves on the British around World War Two its a great fit. They had an island nation so the analogy worked. They model their navy on the British to a point and definitely their foreign policy. So they run around Asia for like 13 years just massacring and oppressing people.
The bad treatment as we all know extended to just torturing and killing US prisoners they had taken. Some escaped. Proof had surfaced in the States and the brutality of the Japanese was well documented. Their own War Crimes Trials show they were heartless murderers who couldnt be bothered to control their thug soldiers.
So if yo were sitting in Yankee Stadium or Ebbets Field that August you would see countless servicemen. You were hit up for War Bonds on the way in I’m sure. The guy next to you shared a few sips of booze while you flagged down the beer guy (in American League Stadiuns only!) and you talked about the war between batters. And everyone hated the Japanese and wanted it over tomorrow. And every person in that stadium agreed that it was better to kill 200 thousand “Japs” than lose even one more American. It was a lot like right after 9-11 when we would have preferred peace but since we had been attacked we were all like ‘fuck them’ for awhile.
Truman’s Stark Reality – Impeachment
In Washington new American president Truman found out about the Manhattan Project when FDR dies. From all accounts he struggled to understand it at first and basically spent the time it took to figure out he didnt really need to know how it worked to use it.
Because then he got hit with a price tag so huge that figuring out the Bomb was childs play compared to justifying the Manhattan Project to the country! With the Germans beyond the brink of collapse the opportunity to use it in Europe was a razor thin series of weeks where the Germans are so finished it was judged unneccessary, and cruel by Eisenhower. It was a non issue.
Japan however, well they were unleashing the sort of tactics the Germans had fallen to at the very end, suicidal child soldiers, and worse. The war in Europe was much worse in the East, but the US had taken a beating from the Nazis and their allies all the same. No one was going to think that trillions of dollars more in conventional equipment wouldnt have saved lives. To be fair we probably could have unleashed so much tactical air support on Normandy every unit on the ground could have had a squadron of P-51 Mustangs tasked right to it with the kind of money we’re talking about. So there’s that – it’s the Biggest Single Project the US Government would attempt until the Moon Landing but bigger, costlier and much faster. And deadlier.
Had he not dropped the bomb he surely would have been impeached. It would have been after a likely horrible and costly invasion of Japan and a much different Occupation than that which came to pass. It could have taken years to pacify!
Truman was following a legend as president, but he himself had some image problems when it came to his apparent intelligence not seen again til George W Bush. Following Hendrix at Woodstock would have been easier. Congress would have ruminated on the Decision not to drop the Bomb and history would be different. Truman would have been the first American President Impeached and maybe even locked up! There’s no way this doesn’t go through Truman’s head.
And then there’s the Russians. The Red Scare hasnt started quite yet but he’s found out he’s got Russian spies in the mix. After watching Stalin waste hundreds of thousands of lives in the final months of the war, when victory was in hand (but the Germans werent quite ready to lose!). The Battle of Berlin alone is a slaughter that shocks the Western Allies.
So Truman is seeing Stalin as a guy who doesn’t care about his own people, and he’s getting a little frisky in the aftermath of the European war. Truman didnt know Stalin was aware of the bomb, but he knew news of the bomb, used or not would get out. He was probably afraid that if he seemed too compassionate Stalin would literally jerk him around and maybe act more aggressively than he already was. So that was it, he was gonna drop that bomb and show Stalin he was no loser while maybe dusting off the Japanese once and for all. If he tried and the Japanese still wouldn’t give up the public wouldn’t blame him.
He didn’t know yet he would become the president with the very lowest approval ratings in Gallup History, but he surely knew his hold on power was tenuous. While not power mad Truman had plans to win an election or two on his own (which he does).
Getting Impeached for fucking up the end of a War people just wanted over didnt figure in to his plans.
The Scrapped Invasion
Crazy MacArthur was keen to invade the Japanese mainland. He probably was pissed when the Bomb makes the invasion unnecessary. There’s some evidence he was looking to use a whole bunch of bombs to sock hos way through the island nation. He already had a careless attitude towards WMD’s that would cost him his job in Korea (after another failure to defend properly despite intelligence).
Theres been so much written about the Invasion, and the outright fear of doing it, that I’m not going to talk about it much. The term half million men lost has been thrown around. Lets say we got off easy and it was only 100 thousand, thats your backdrop to the Truman Impeachment Hearing that absolutely happens if he tries this without using the Bomb first.
So he picked up the phone and said “Dammit, drop that thing that blows the fuck out of a city on the rotten bastards!” (or something close to that)
After the Bomb
The Japanese War Cabinet still can’t get it together enough to surrender. They had to be hit again with another bomb and see their society cracking right in front of them before they just finally give up. Thats sort of the final spoke in any argument about the bomb. It says a lot.

Mark Zuckerberg’s simulacra spoke to congress today. It was tasked with explaining how 80 million Facebook users data was misappropriated and weaponized to help elect Trump and other disturbing ends via use of Military Predictive Software on civilians. Aside from making everyone misty about Tom from MySpace he essentially came off like a prototype for Star Trek’s Mr Data.
Oh yeah and we might have seen the birth and documentation of some new form or War Crime against all of us with Facebook used as a carrier for nematode-like data-mining. Metamorphizing when activated by someone who wants to know what their Jedi name would be (or any number of other stupid quiz topics) it finds and weaponizes every little thing that Palantir wants to know.
One thing that came up in an ominous way, and something Zuckerberg lied about not knowing about, was a Tech Data Company using the Tolkien term Palantir as its name. So who the Fuck are these Palantir Technologies people?
Something of a “Cambridge Analytica” in its own right the company name is from the Lord of the Rings. The Palantir are several magical bowling bowl sized stone orbs that allow the holders to speak from distance provided they have the Right and the Will to use the them. If you’re not that worthy or willful you can be twisted and changed by using it to contact someone who has more power than you. In the books it’s the downfall of a one time good guy when he uses one to try to deal with the ultimate bad guy, Sauron. After a couple of conversations with Sauron the good guy, Saruman, is broken and becomes an agent of Evil. So they basically named themselves after a malignant form of communication that undermines ones individuality. So at least false advertising not a claim we can put against them, right?
That Zuckerberg was unaware of Palantir is sort of hard to believe considering it was the property of Pay-Pal Co-Founder, Facebook investor and Trump-Lovin’ MAGA Hat owner, Peter Thiel (Billionaire!). Now that I have some idea what they’re all about I would have denied it too.
Founded in 2004 seems they start out selling their services to the US Military to predict terrorist and insurgent behavior. Apparently they had enough success at this that by 2013 they manage to sell these same services to the Los Angeles Police Department to predict crime.
In a moment of true perception the The Guardian published an article that compared them to the Powerful but Flawed Pre-Crime Computers from the Philip K Dick science fiction tale “Minority Report”. The writer referenced the movie several times. Truth is the people from Palantir look good when they can identify crime hot spots, but they start playing god by unscrupulously re-selling the data to the highest bidder, or it seems, to any bidder.
A company so secretive that in 2013 they had no office, just something in Palo Alto called a SCIF. Consider it a situation room for aspiring Bond Villains as the Palantir people start to dive deeper and deeper into murky corners of our data footprints that speak to its algorithms.
It’s time to consider that people have been killed or thrown in jail by data and predictions from the Palantir people. Maybe they all deserved it. Certainly the jailed individuals had their day in court but the point is Palantir isn’t involved in small stakes operations. They will take money to make predictions that will then have a direct effect on things like where Military or Police resources get allocated. Thats a big deal.
So next Palantir is using methods gleaned from the occupation of Iraq and in West Coast US Law Enforcement to predict and shape behavior with a bunch of innocuous looking quizzes that you or your friends might be tempted to take on Facebook.
Trojan Horse doesnt begin to cover it (and has a tech connotation all its own anyway) but through a series of deceptive underhanded moves enabled by the allegedly naive Facebook people they decide they have enough to determine the outcome of an election. In it purely for the money they probably broke a bunch of laws in spirit as well as substance.
This being a mercantilist society the Palantir people did what the machine gun people did. They looked for new markets for their military product. Dressed up as the same sort of lucky break that improved all video games the moment the Cold War ends and frees tech minds from military tasks the Palantir people cynically dove in to any platform they could exploit.
So they turned to Facebook. Facebook was focused on all the wrong threats, like denial of service attacks and to their credit it seems theyve never fallen victim to one of consequence. Rather than a fake profile Trolling approach the Palantir people simply break in and take everything they want by exploiting ambiguities in the Facebook user agreement and vulnerabilities in the Facebook code. Since they were throwing Russian money at Zuckerberg with a snowshovel, possibly through shell corporations, he didn’t think too hard or look too deeply at what the Palantir people were doing. Now, if we’re to believe Mr Data, he’s sorry he was so naive.
Had Palantir acquired the information with binoculars through a window looking at your desk no cop would take “But the drapes were open” as an excuse for fraud and being a Peeping Tom. Thats the Gray Area in a nutshell. Since theres no Internet Law Enforcement Agency they just went ahead and did it. It’s probably going to end up being something illegal in the future, once our lawmakers learn to use smartphones!
Will they be stopped? If they are it wont be soon, and theres already lots of damage. The Palantir peoples model may not be perfect, theres a lot yet to be found out about them, but they had enough insight to be part of the 10 for 10 in Toss Up states record Trump had on election night.
The micro-targeting and emotional manipulation they unleashed on Facebook users may have been enough to change things. If it changed eve one state it made Trump President.
The people from Palantir are not unlike Saruman, the once good Wizard who abuses the eponymous magic Palantir in Lord of the Rings. They were able to put on a pleasing voice and seduce people into clicking away their data (and that of their friends). At the end of the final book Saruman meets his end at the hands of one of his henchmen after nearly destroying the once pristine homeland of the Hobbits, which he turned into a Middle Earth version of the Warsaw Ghetto.
The Real World Palantir Corporation may just be done in by congress for wrecking America and it’s still to be determined the level of damage they have done and what the Fuck they are up to now.

Recent weeks have seen the emergence of a new toxic NRA talking head calling himself Colion Noir.
Like all NRA spokespeople he never misses a chance to undermine faith in the police and puff about armed citizenry being the only REAL law enforcement. He’s sort of good at weaving anti-law enforcement themes and anti-media screeds. He also knows how to talk to any one group of people and have them walk away more unhappy, divided and intolerant of other peoples ideas then they were before he started.
I guess the first thing we ever hear in the non Gun Nut world is back in 2016 when he throws out some crazy thoughts that are hard to figure out about Law Enforcement and of course, the media.
When a black Minnesota Police officer shot and killed a black guy named Philando Castile right in front of his girlfriend and her 4 year old daughter Noir uncorked a wild but inventive example of stream of consciousness real-time Gaslighting and blameshifting. He was quick defend the guns involved. In fact, if Noir is to be believed, the problem wasn’t that Castile was armed; or that the voluntary revelation of Castile being armed freaked the cop out so badly he kills the guy in a cold panic; it was the media.
Here’s his insane quote-
So in other words, Black people have been conditioned to fear black people? Does anyone want to really throw a blanket statement of such ignorance an entire race? (hint- Collins Iyare Idehen Jr. does!) Extra points for insincerely using the victims first name to seem more genuine.
For context- heres how a Long Island, New York news broadcast covered the story
All I can say about the terrible Castile tragedy is Officer Yanez was far too high strung to be a cop. If thats not at least manslaughter the local PD has to justify their methods AND their Psych-Eval. I’m truly sorry for his family. Maybe I’m crazy but i think it’s a horrible thing to use as a wedge to divide people. It’s even worse to just go and cash in off it. Its shifty and hurts society.
Im just gonna say it- Colion Noir seems like he is some sort self hating black guy and he plays the role well. Whether he’s a method actor who somehow believes it when he’s saying what plays well to the NRA crowd or just totally putting everyone on for some easy bucks is anyone’s guess.
Love him or hate him lets all appreciate the Golden Fuckin Thing Noir’s holding on to- he’s getting paid to make a pretty insane case; That more guns is the answer. That guns can’t possibly be bad and Professional Law Enforcement is never good. It’s a terrible set of beliefs and all of them are sort of UnAmerican, really. But it PAYS!
Wayne LaPierre routinely pulls down 5 million bucks a year, and eventually we’ll find out what they’re paying their youngest face, 33 OR 34 year old Noir (Wikipedia is unsure), but it’ll come out (and I’ll update the post when it does)
A pretty good dissembler with a distaste for children and a great nom d’ plume he’s as toxic as Loathsome Dana Loesch
Heres some quick facts –
Last night on FOX and today on CNN OJ Simpson will confirm what we all know; He’s guilty. He was also framed.
It explains everything. The moment Fuhrman goes over the fence is probably when he planted the bloody glove.
Don’t blame the jury!
The jury didnt convict OJ but it’s not on them, They could see that the crime scen was a mess and sense the fix was probably in, and they were right! It was amateur hour framing and he simply couldn’t be convicted. This one is on Phillips, Vannatter and Fuhrman. The LA Detectives just didn’t feel like going through the work they were paid to do- proving OJ did it IN AN HONEST WAY.
Since he almost goes down for it anyway its safe to blame the whole fiasco on the bad cops who didn’t do their jobs. I’m glad I don’t live in LA cause that police department sort of scares me. Bad rep for a long time. They might come frame ME!
Instead of work the case right they decided to make it a slam dunk and planted some evidence. They were simply lazy (not that this isn’t corruption too). Best Guess was they didn’t yet appreciate the intense media focus that would pretty much expose the cavalier and bad investigation, if not the framing. Hey, maybe they knew the fix was in and thats why they non chalanted it a little? The crime scene was proven to be pretty much contaminated, so what if the blood was real at that point? It had been tracked through etc. Also; DNA was too new to be trusted yet.
Whats scary is they probably did it more than just this one time too. They were dishonest lazy bad cops.
Look no further than the cop who was holding on to the suspected murder weapon for fun if you think the LAPD was doing things right at this point.
So guilty, but framed. It’s the only theory that answers all the questions.
As a final thought- Judith Reagan’s a ghoul for wanting to ever do this book and interview she’s promoting. What good can come of it? There’s no way to lock him up for it anymore. Double Jeopardy applies.

In a spectacular display of gaslighting Trump’s just spent about 5 minutes insisting a drug dealer kills at least 5000 people in their lives and must be killed themselves.
In fact it was so crazy I started typing this immediately. We’re seeing a new low in style and delivery from trump. It’s all stuff we’ve seen before but perhaps more vitriolic than ever, unbelievably.
The speech was a disjointed mess as usual. I’ll try to keep like ideas together. Of course his delivery meandered as always. It seemed off the cuff as usual too. The idea Trump freestyling without a qualified staff was on full display.
The drug dealer comments came after a long screed about the Wall that’s never getting built and impromptu imitations of other world leaders. He pulled out his applause line about the fantasy Mexico will pay fo the Wall for a couple of preposterous stories.
Trump also found time to make some pejorative racial cracks about Elizabeth Warren before lacing into repeated long stories about ICE and MS-13. It was pretty hard to figure out if the crowd was chanting ‘Build that Wall” or “Kill Them All”. I guess he’s lucky theres so few Native Americans in general, but its safe to say “racist against Native Americans” describes his comments best.
Later Trump helicoptered back to MS-13 yet again and compared the ICE raids on Long Island to the liberation of a city during war-time, a total misrepresentation. Then he scapegoated immigrants again as he called for penalties for sanctuary cities. Then on to chain migration and that Visa Lottery he hates for no apparent reason.
Then he praised the ICE agents as mean brutes, which is the way Trump wants all law enforcement to act (except Mueller, of course). All remarks on criminal justice revolved around the death penalty and 19th Century Opium War analogies which also were about the death penalty. He held up Singapore and China as paragons of justice.
As usual his overall tone could be called “Un-American”.
He didn’t seem scripted at all tonight. Maybe all the staff defections prevented anyone from putting together any kind of speech. It was just boasting and vitriol.
It was disturbing to have him use imprisonment, the death penalty and nuclear war as punch lines. Whatever.
The unbroken boiler plate technique of never reaching out to the other side endured. In a particularly unhinged moment he bought up Rep Maxine Waters just to bash her intelligence. He also found time to talk about some sort of Secret Weakness of Oprah’s as he wished she’d run for president. Personally if another TV personality gets close to being the president its off to Canada for me. The point is Trump bashed 2 black women just for the fuck of it. Pretty despicable.
And for the first time Ronald Reagan started to take a beating. Trump portrayed himself as not the Snake Oil Salesman he is; but a better version of Old Dutch and then mentioned some out of context, sketchy or hard to believe stuff he claimed he did better than Reagan.
Then he called himself the most successful first term president in all American History. So Lincoln? Washington? all just a warmup for Trump? The idiots in the crowd bought it.
Political violence doesn’t seem like its far off when you see the way Trump irresponsibly manipulates the fools who cling to him still. I guess its tempting to live in a World where everyone but you and Trump are wrong.
And he found time to congratulate himself for solving unemployment for African Americans.
On to an attack on the Democrats. Is there any doubt he’ll launch a criminal probe of any opponent in the next General Election?
Hillary got bashed, Obama got bashed. Even George W Bush got trashed. The crowd loved it. Lets face it these people were members of Cult 45.
Frightening repeated calls for Isolationism concerning his Wall and some denigrating comments he half bought back about the president of Mexico were in there.
For awhile he was boasting about his tax plan. The he was using a theoretical nuclear attack on the Olympics as a laugh line. Then he took all the credit for the success of the Olympics themselves.
75 minutes in he’s again boasting of the size of the crowd he drew and criticizing how the media covers it, trying to floor direct the news coverage through sheer bullying.
Like Dana Loesch at CPAC and every other republican for the last 18 months he extolled the crowd by denigrating the media. Lots of Stalin Era terms like Fake News were used by the president in his
Over and over he stated that since he’s good news copy he’s a good president. This is about the stupidest justification for presidency ever including the platforms of everyone who ever lost including Eugene V Debs.
He bashed the press over and over. Tonight for whatever reason it was Chuck Todd who was he subject of the not so funny insult “Sleepy Eyes”. The guy has red hair, couldn’t Trump have done better? Whatever. This week he says he hates MSNBC more than CNN and especially hates Meet The Press. It was petty and small.
On to bashing Peggy Noonan and The “Failing New York Times. He claims he likes Noonan, he just hates that she dares to criticize him. I guess somehow that relates to the Reagan-bashing? She did work for him.
He then imitated himself as ‘a real politician.’ It was better than his serious comments to be honest. About 2 minutes of pantomiming here. Circus skills were on display from the president as he’s basically a clown anyway.
Throwing people in jail, arresting people and killing drug dealers come up over and over. It’s pretty damn scary thinking this is what’s floating around his mind all day.
Of course no mention of the chaos or Stormy Daniels as the most secretive least transparent president ever just basically kept puffin’ away with not so coded racism and one whack idea after another.
And he spent a lot of time interrupting himself as one thought pushed out another. Its hard not to notice the heavy no necked guy behind Trump on my TV’s left who looks seriously inbred next to the lone minorities, 2 people holding up shirts referring to China (Jared’s fans?) at the rally.
As always, the whole speech was disparate and weird. Using violent analogies as a crutch he wheeled from one idea to another.
We could tell two things-
-Donald Trump loves the Death Penalty
– Donald Trump is winging it all the time now and needs the crowds approval. As they go he goes, he stands for nothing.
Then of course it was back to election night and recounting his “Historic’ Russian influenced fluke victory.
Now as Trump moves you can see there is in fact one black person there. I guess good for her?
The whole story of election night has become like Hitler talking about World War 1, but with Bones Spurs.
And then an attack on CNN and more puffery about election night. The margin of victory was either razor slim or Historic from moment to moment.
He did whine about the idea he would be Impeached. Wonder why he thinks that? The he misrepresented his education again and claimed he went to Wharton. He went to the Wharton Campus and took Real Estate Programs (that didn’t last at the school). Maybe he took a management class that some actual Wharton students took. I’m sure the school is proud a man who went bankrupt 3 times attributes his success to them. I don’t think they’re ever going to be a “Trump Hall” at the school, unless its Sexual Assault Trauma Counseling Center.
And we all had to hear the Keep America Great slogan he’s already unveiled for 2020 re-election effort, which started November 9th 2016.
Then Militarism was up for a few boasts and lies where he talked about an incredible American weakness Kim Jong-Un must have loved hearing about. Someone needs to explain to him that they navy is smaller than world war two becuae 1- its more effective and 2- one third of the ships are no longer carrying coal behind the actual combat ships. His military misconceptions were stark and frightening.
And of course Trump thinks everyones all wrong to about how he’s pointlessly cozying up to horrible Dictator Kim Jong-Un. Kindred spirits maybe? Anyway turns out he’s sure that the North Koreans will love everything he says and do whatever he wants. He then derided the media for questioning why he would do something so extreme without getting a thing in return. He seemed so frustrated on this point that theres probably no way he reconsiders this unbelievably stupid move.
Finally, having spewed hate apparently off the top of his head for nearly 90 minutes, Trump finally started to introduce the keynote speaker, GOP Hater Rick Saccone, a man who sounded like he had just swallowed broken glass. And then mercifully the coverage ended.
Seriously this was pure Nazi brainwashing. Gaslighting, lies, exaggerations, some pure bullshitting about his popularity being at an all time high when its stagnant below 40 since weeks into his presidency.
It was a deep dive into a non reality in the guise of a campaign rally. In fact he barely mentioned the candidate at all. He seems to have moved on from dramatic tales of teachers needing guns and hypothetical tales of personal bravery that was part of his whole mishandling of America’s Gun Massacre Problem last week. Back to xenophobia and Them-ism with a vengeance.
As the misappropriated legally forbidden Rolling Stones song he wont stop playing sadly played to the collected losers and racists who showed up on a cold winter night to watch a madman it was about as disturbing as could be. Every box checked off on the “Tin Pot Dictator Fascinated with Hitler” checklist.
Like all Trump speeches it was based largely on the first 5 minutes of 1970’s “Patton” docu-drama about the hard charging World War Two general. He deeply misunderstands this movie, but his political style is pretty much wholly based on it.
In this terrible speech Trump hit on most of the themes assocuated with the start of Word War One and Two and especially Weimar and early Nazi Germany.
There was militarism and a call to strengthen the military. There was the blaming of a small section of society for every manner of problems. There was the Gaslighting that Drug Dealing is equal to thousands of murders. I guess its im[ortant to note he made no distinction between marijuana, crack or heroin.
Grim, Dystopian, dark and racist are all words you could apply to this shaeful display of menta weakness by the president.
Trump’s speech would have worked fine for the Kaiser or Hitler himself honestly.
Like a Nazi speaker from the scrapheap of history there was blame heaped on political opponents. It was repeatedly implied the media should be harmed to help America out. There was an attack on our Allies as well as bellicose talk of the campaign against ISIS where the seemingly made up statistic of 98% of territory recovered from ‘the Caliphate’. Islamophobia and scorn towards immigrants were themes. Protectionism was in there when he touted the steel and aluminum tariffs that will be paid by American citizens in the end.
UPDATE- the presidents staff said there WAS a script for the rally, he simply didn’t use it. Hard to believe actually.
Oh by the way, Conor Lamb got some help too.

Viewers of the recent CNN Town Hall for the Stoneman-Douglas High School Shooting Survivors and their families were introduced to Satan’s Personal Life Coach, Dana Loesch of the NRA.
With all the charm of an angry unqualified Substitute Teacher she alternately patronized, chided or even sort of scolded the students and upbraided the hosts while getting gigged for lying, making things up and not doing research. She blamed all her mistakes on Media inaccuracies. I guess the fact she has deep ties to the Main Stream Media would shock some. Later she claimed she wouldn’t have made it out alive without security. I don’t know what she expected considering how she was so obviously trying to manufacture just that. She recounted her version of it to buttress her case against the survivors the next day. Talk about phony and insincere!
While Wayne LaPierre is NRA CEO and the primary spokesperson he can only rant so much while he’s basically running the organization for Putin. Newcomer Loesch, first seen in a chilling NRA web ad in April 2017, is the “Kinder, Gentler” NRA spokesperson who is supposed to appeal to moms and guys who notice her looks.
We know all about Wayne LaPierre and his issues from keeping up with the posts here at TheRealMcteag, so let’s get to know not so charming Loesch as quickly as we can, because hey, she’s pretty awful.
Raised by her single mom Gale, she’s from Missouri. Her home town, Arnold, was founded by a guy with a land grant from, of all people, the King of Spain! Growing up I imagine her favorite Looney Toon would have been Yosemite Sam, but Foghorn Leghorn is probably in the running too.
Dana was born September 28, 1979, a birthday she shares with SICK skateboarder Bam Margera as well as it being the anniversary of Pompei the Great losing his life to an angry sword owner (to which she’s likely add- ‘due to the absence of a good guy with a sword.’). Her original last name was Eaton.
Like we said, Dana is from the ‘bustling metropolis’ of Arnold, biggest town in the county. It’s boasted a steady population of just about twenty thousand as far back as 1980 (when I stopped looking, so probably forever) .
Arnold boasts a ‘diverse’ population that’s a whopping 96.3 % white. Just think about it! Why, they’re sure to have all sorts of white people from places as exotic as Ireland and even Germany! I bet they even have an Australian or two. How white’s this town? For comparison it’s just 0.06% African American; so you could easily say Dana lived a sheltered life in a tiny town where most everyone was the same.
Honestly, it’s a tossup if young Dana so much as saw a non white person of any kind before she ventured to St Louis after getting her driver’s license. We’re talking Nowheres-ville, people! How insignificant is Arnold? Well, its between Dana and NASCAR driver Rusty Wallace for most well-known person from there (same matchup for most famous High School Grad of local Fox High).
Her education consists of graduating Fox High School.
Dana rounded out her ‘education’ by dropping out of not one, but two colleges, which is sort of baffling because for a hot moment she had a journalism scholarship. It’s not too easy finding dates for this. I’m guessing she scrubbed her wiki of them because at almost 40 she wont automatically be getting listened to by every right wing old man much longer. I’m not gonna lie, for a pretty long time she was pretty good looking and I guess would have been one of the best looking woman out of the roughly 300 date-able (or in her case later, MILF-y) women in Arnold. If you like your women with crazy eyes and a cruel mocking smile she’s a real catch! This is the part of the story where she bumps against not bein’ too smart for the first time. Her soon to be husband Chris gets to take the fall when she drops out of school.
Married at home was infinitely preferable to things like fancy book learnin’ and great for selective reading of the Bill of Rights! Armed only with good looks and the emerging insanity of the Right, Loesch stepped in shit with an early blog site she called “Mamalogues”. Straight out of the Cult of Domesticity!
She’s sometimes described as the most successful “Mom Blogger”. I guess “Tiger-Mom” was the other big one from that pre-Pinterest moment? It’s funny because she might be the last person you’d let watch you kids or ever want to listen to! Non bruising punishments like hot sauce on the tongue are likely her methods and FORGET her gender views with the way she always finds a way to talk about rape! (and I feel sorry for her 2 sons). I guess it was different and less outright bitingly cruel from her bullshit these days, because somehow it got her enough attention to get her articles published by the St Louis Post-Dispatch. By 2007 she was getting noticed and Mamalogues won some awards.
By 2009 she was hosting nationally syndicated radio show “The Dana Show, A Conservative Alternative.” That same year she gets in on the Tea Party craze, co-founding a St Louis chapter of the Far Right confederation. Honing her skills, at this point shes chattering all day on TV and radio, you gotta figure it’s when she starts relating all violence to MS 13 and using Straw Man Arguments about Chicago.
Also at this point the doors opened to the Fox News shows and other right wing media appearances. Rest assured she has been on pretty much every Fox News show but is probably the best fit for Morning TV in her NRA role. You figure they sent LaPierre to deal with gropers like Bill O’Reilly, but I’m guessing.
By the time 2010 rolls around she’s an institution on Fox and CNN as a right wing contributor. The awards from Right Wing Groups really start piling up at this time too.
At this moment she could have strategically jettisoned her most awful views and moved closer to the middle and maybe have scared up her own show. It was there for a second, but she didn’t change so it vanished. Regardless, as 2010 and 2011 roll by she’s got the world at her feet….briefly.
In 2012 she makes her biggest journalistic ‘splash’ defending US Marines who had urinated on dead Taliban. That was fucked up but I forgive the Marines, they were just kids and had just been in battle. Loesch, on the other hand, starts to make a move towards greater notoriety by exploiting the youthful mistakes of others and catering to Islamaphobia. It didn’t go unnoticed. In fact all the wrong people love it and all the right people are a bit alarmed so far as furthering a TV pundit career goes.
And thats when she encountered the physical limits of the role she’s chosen. She was young and attractive and completely Right Wing. She was a far cry from her original guise of “Mom Blogger” Maybe she didn’t realize it, but she’d trended too far to the right.
Of course these views had led her to Breitbart, where she asserts she was never paid and essentially spewed hate for free. (Another example of just not being that smart). Who knows if its true? Breitbart himself is dead before she takes any action on this. Shes in a documentary called “Hating Breitbart” about it. Whatever.
As late as 2015 she’s still with CNN and contributing to coverage of the Oregon Shooting . (This might explain why she still was given some quarter by Jake Tapper as he asked the town hall participants, who were just scorched by her callous words, to show her the respect she doesn’t have for anyone else.)
Then money making opportunities suddenly got pretty scarce for the female Ted Nugent that is Loesch. In fact the original radio station in St Louis where her show began dropped her in 2016 even though at that point Conservative craziness was really IN! The Trump Campaign was around the whole year waging a cynical, gun loving and racist campaign. Possibly that sucked the air out of the right wing hater talk circuit to feed its own insatiable fire of Destruction and Intolerance. One way or another her show goes kaput. I’m guessing this is when she loses her benefits and stops taking the psych meds she so desperately needs. I dont know what it does to your pundit’s paycheck when you take a backwards step like that. It must have been a scary time.
As we said, she wasn’t always smart enough to actually get paid when she was spewing hate. For a minute there it looked like she would maybe have to even get a real job! This explains well why she starts living in Dallas in Bankruptcy Friendly, creditor hating, asset protecting Texas. There she probably thought the game was up as she’d accumulated too much of a stink to be more than an occassional Fox News Pundit. I think the desperation still shows in her performances. She KNOWS it’s a Golden Fucking Thing to get paid for this nonsense whether she believes in it or not. There’s nothing I could find regarding her current NRA compensation, Wayne LaPierre for comparison routinely pulls down 5 million bucks a year. Whatever they’re paying her she’s tooling hard for them. But it’s also a shifty way to make money. Actually, after her horrible mouth, a perceptible desperation and being shifty with cash seem to be the things you come across the most when you research Dana Loesch.
Fortunately for Loesch her rhetoric had been so extreme and her looks were still fresh enough that the NRA decided to solve all her problems by giving her a job being extreme and intolerant. Her debut was the aforementioned April, 2017 completely unhinged NRA Ad (embedded below) It featured her delivering such upbeat dialogue as-
“… They use their movie stars and singers and comedy shows and award shows to repeat their narrative over and over again. And then they use their ex-president to endorse the resistance…. To smash windows, burn cars, shut down interstates and airports, bully and terrorize the law-abiding – until the only option left is for the police to do their jobs and stop the madness…. The only way we stop this, the only way we save our country and our freedom, is to fight this violence of lies with the clenched fist of truth….”
So as you see she’s no shrinking violet in this game. She speaks coldly, arrogantly and disturbingly. Loesch is brimming over with faux Righteous Indignation toward anyone not currently packing heat. Unabashedly pro Trump (hey they DID give him 30 MILLION Dollars in helpful ads in 2016) and dripping with disdain it really is quite chilling.
Ones left to wonder WHY Loesch thinks the Police would wait til they had “no other option” to “do their jobs” or why they are apparently so unfit to stop crime. Are Decent Cops not worth the money? It doesn’t matter. Vigilantism is her thing. Like a Jim Crow Lynch Mob would be her preferred form of Justice I guess.
Brittle and angry in her public appearances you would think there was nowhere to go but Up for the actual scripted public speeches. No such luck.
Her entire delivery is desperately aggressive and downright ‘Hitler Raving in The Bunker’ in its tone. For one thing she wont stand still and simply talk. Shes more a performance artist. Loesch has an unsettling habit of circling the podium with a capricious look on her face jabbing the air with an accusatory finger. Her head is often low to the lectern as she hisses hatefully. This is sooo creepy you probably need to see it for yourself.
In her most recent
hateful rant public appearance, at CPAC of course and the day after the CNN Town Hall no less, she made hay out of her recent experiences. She mockingly called out the media after making sure to focus the attention of the largely gun owning crowd on them and then pointing, physically and dramatically at them as she called them the worst deathmongers of all. Unveiling her rhetorical flourish about “Legacy Media”, the lines, sounding like they were ripped right out of Mein Kampf, were –
“Many in legacy media love mass shootings,” she then drank in the harsh laughter, applause and catcalls at the media before dropping this beauty, “… you love the ratings. Crying white mothers are ratings gold.” and then a Hitlerian pause to allow the
fuhrer furor to die down. Later she again ridiculed the Police. I suppose she simply can’t stand trained law enforcement and their tiny pistols with just 16 bullets and measly one gun per cop? I don’t know but my dad was a cop, I find it offensive!
The performances are so over the top and disingenuous that, if you’re not a total nut, it reeks a bit of desperation (there’s that word again). The circling, the hands on the hips striking poses and sweeping arm gestures are obvious and maudlin, especially when minimizing murder and decrying the government.
Gaslighting, moving the goalposts and lots of recycled Nazi “Them-ism” in its many forms make up the majority of her maneuvers. It would be funny if it wasn’t so sick and clothed in the guise of True Americanism, whatever that needs to be at the moment.
Everyone can just decide for themselves if waving your arms in the air while shouting falsehoods really makes someone a ‘good speaker’. The other possibility would be she’s a train-wreck in slow motion that no one can look away from.
If you were to read both their speeches it would take quite awhile to figure out which one was hers and which one was LaPierre’s ( or until one of her frequent allusions to her greatest feat – having two children ). Perhaps their biggest stylistic difference is that LaPierre mostly calls out the government and deals with ideas that border on Treason and Terrorism. Loesch loves this stuff too, but she mostly just likes to draw rape analogies while going after Cops and the media. Arming Teachers is actually one of the tamer things in her milieu.
She’s also brazen and reckless. She kind of threatened the media gaggle covering her CPAC speech and accused them of loving massacres. She added hers to the fascist voices implying that violence against the media would be okay. That’s just irresponsible. Surely this must have felt scary for the journalists in that room full of conservative concealed carry lunatics.
So far she’s not directly implicated in any violence against reporters or the like, but if she doesn’t change her tune it will certainly occur.
Since Tomi Lahren is nipping at Loesch’s heels for Designated Unqualified Good Looking Right Wing Hater and is 10 or so years younger I don’t think we’ll have to put up with Loesh a whole lot longer.
She’s I guess made two contributions to Mass Culture. For starters she’s possibly the first person to use the term “Legacy Media”. It was coined to try to elevate stuff like Mamalogues to the level of CNN and the New York Times (and drop those outlets to angry twitter streams in her estimation of their importance). We all know that’s just not true.
Her second contribution to Mass Culture is being the face of the NRA immediately after a tragedy. A time when they used to go silent for about three days. This alone means she will be a lightning rod of anger to many for years to come even if she stops now. I’m just gonna call her one morbid and horrible monster for making money like that right here and now. It’s desperate, shifty and more cunning than smart. But that’s Dana for you.
You can find the current incarnation of the Dana Loesch show on NRATV, which is exactly what it sounds like; a TV-like streaming content app crazy people put on their Roku’s or Firesticks.
If you like threats of treason and violence check out this web ad where she’s just plain fed up with anyone who disagrees with her, especially THE MEDIA! She sounds as crazy as ever in it as she counts down to an NRA Fueled Armageddon. They SAY its a commercial for her show. I think its proof she lied to Jake Tapper about being 125 pounds. shes closer to 160 (hey SHE bought it up as part of her argument for gun ownership).
Here she is again spewing hate (paid for a change?). Fair Warning- she’s at her most arrogant and defiant, it’s hard to watch.
Which brings us to now. You’re all caught up and ready to Resist!
The future? Just guessing here- Look for her to eventually retire to a double-wide in a very white town in an Open Carry State with favorable Bankruptcy laws. She will probably emerge again unexpectedly with a terrible second act, possibly when she
shoots someone or her kid accidentally shoot themselves or her. Statistics suggest she’s at high risk for something like that and we already know she’s paranoid, intolerant and packs a gun to buy groceries.

UPDATED- I have watched about three (now up to 9) episodes of Star Trek Discovery. I don’t have any passion for this show. I had mixed feelings going in but its worse than I feared. Not fun and heavily pilfered from a variety of successful sci -fi franchises (NONE of which were Star Trek). They even say “It’s not you, it’s me.” just like in Seinfield! Its harder to watch than the worst episode of Deep Space 9.
Instead of any kind of good or cohesive story its a freakish trip through other successful sci-fi franchises
At its worst, which it re-establishes several times an episode, its as maudlin and self important as the misguided ‘serious’ episodes of M*A*S*H.
Its boring, predictable and derivative. Familiar characters get horrible treatment. The writers research seems very cursory. Its not network quality. Its an even worse show than the shortest lived Law & Order spin-off.
Because I have now PTSD Im going to try to write my way to a place where I can forget the trauma and sleep. Yeah, its THAT bad.
At this point I must trash JJ Abrams greedy merchandise oriented creative decisions he selfishly made in his time at the Helm of the Final Frontier. We split the timeline so we wouldnt have to revenue share toys and this is what we’re left with. The implications of his Star Trek franchise, which he’s now abandoned to ruin Star Wars, throws all shows out of cannon except PREQUELS of the original 1967 series. In other words, Enterprise and this. I guess the idea of a traditional Star Trek show was never considered. Certainly the writers are a bit handcuffed.
That said they did a shitty job. No respect for the fans or the material was shown. More of the Abrams era “Lets fix that awful Star Trek by killing its charms” approach. Its not really an excuse. This is still Star Trek and big budget and good script could have come together, because things like the sets are a triumph most of the time. No such luck. They failed deliver a show you would want to watch or any likable characters for that matter. The lead is a Human female Reverse Spock who grew up on Vulcan. And that’s not even the worst or laziest part.
What went wrong? Apparently everything but mostly, in no real order, it’s that the shows few attempts at humor fail miserably. Then tone is self important and overly slick. All CGI special effects stops have been pulled out. You might be dazzled by a near future holographic subspace conference calls and a huge, even Bigly space battle, but you wont have any fun or crack a smile as the show just sort of happens.
Also lacking- Simple compassion. Its stark how little life seems worth to the Federation. We see characters in jeopardy, like a shuttle pilot who i guess dies for no reason except the dialogue was particularly cumbersome and bad for the preceding 5 minutes. You would expect the loss of any Star Fleet officer to deserve at least a remark, like how these awful people werent worth the loss, or that she had been recovered no thanks to them. The show lacks HUMANITY. In a universe of aliens its rudderless.
Here’s an example of how terrible it is- theres an episode called “The Butcher’s Knife Cares Not for The Lambs Cry”. Think about that! The episode with a Latin title, that i think means ‘seek peace, prepare for war’; seems like a real drag as I ponder pulling the plug on continued viewing. The episode titles are so flamingly bad that I wish they simply had numbered them instead.
In a typical low moment during episode 2 we are subjected to some kind of screaming conference call (via holograms) between some pretty badly designed Klingon’s, complete with a flashback to a troubled Klingon childhood right out of Blade Runner 2049. It doesnt work at all, especially juxtaposed with an ethical debates amongst the Star Fleet characters.
So Much horrible. In THIS Star Trek show Klingon’s either yell or deliver lines (in Klingon) with Shakespearian stage kind of acting to I guess make the sheer drivel they’re saying seem important? Wait til you get to their enormous flag ship for a discussion of repairs and food! What a treat! Later we get more disrespect as its unveiled some Ronin-like honor-less Klingon’s had broken and rioted over food. Klingon’s TAKE things or die trying. These re-invented Kilingon’s are as bad as their garish costumes. Re-invented and experimentally designed to say the least. They’re Un-frightening total pussies who are easily beaten up by half dead humans.
The show, such as it is, limps along depending on special effects and gets hamstrung by some of the worst Techno-Babble ever seen on the Final Frontier. Its not as good as even Voyager. Even worse, it takes itself very seriously (while showing that the writers did only cursory research into Trek Lore.)
Much of the time is taken up by the moralistic scientific subplot. This revolves around an emerging technology that we can easily foresee is sort of wrong and Un-Star Fleet, but hey, we got Klingon’s! So we’ll focus on the tension between the Scientific Explorers and the more military people in Star Fleet I guess?
I’m now on episode 9. Its not gotten any better or developed any sort of energy. The Scientific subplot is where the show goes most wrong and borrows, surprisingly, from Event Horizon, which was an ok movie but makes for TERRIBLE Star Trek! The masochistic “Spore Drive” is a really bad sci-fi barely re-imagined “Dance Dance Revolution” video game, with screaming people stuck with fondue forks gyrating in a glass booth to flashing lights to control the ship. It’s not fun to watch. Its also merely pixie dust and rainbows and lacks any tactile qualities. Even just an enhanced Warp Drive with the stripper booth controls would have been less preposterous. The shows reach exceeding its grasp is just too generous a way to put it.
The show has no feel of Trek at all. Its not as good as even Babylon 5 (from which it has appropriated some bad ideas). The ship is even kind of boring looking with a better development story than result (long story short- it was rejected in the 70s and looks like a Star Wars Star Destroyer).
Maybe the re-tasked Horta-like “Tardograde”, creature they keep in bondage is supposed to be a bone thrown to the the fans? Because its a lot like a creature from a GOOD trek show? Ok but it actually looks pretty bad when we get a good look at it, and is completely irrelevant, propping up their bad technical experiment story. This subplot just hangs around to justify the engineer characters reluctance to be a military weapons developer.
I cant blame any actors for lurching and scenery chewing through this mess. I mean, William Shatners pure bluster DOES float a few episodes of the Original Series, so who could blame anyone for tucking in and going with it?
Although it seems like an intervention was trued around episode 7 its taken far too long for us to meet the new crew and see the new ship. To boot its totally underwhelming after the wait.
Oh yeah and Vulcan Logic has become somehow like The Force. Because this is an amalgam of other successful NON STAR TREK Franchises! The end result of this is lots of unbelievably bad magical communicating between the Spock-like Burnham character and the poor actor who has to play Sarek. Pissing all over the Spock origin story and providing a human sibling comes next and is just not fun to hear about in a mutual outer body experience. It’s that fast and loose with major cannon.
I hope they dont try to keep this idea going. Its Un-Worthy.
What does Star Trek Discovery deliver? Ok the special effects are awesome. They have some pretty well made aliens among the terribly done Klingons. If you were one of those who hated the show Enterprise for its title sequence have no fear, the title sequence might be the best thing in this wreck.
Its Unimaginative, its no fun and it depends on special effects. Some plot devices are plain bad, Beaming from deck to deck is a small issue. The funtioning holodeck 100 years too soon is more troubling. Worse, it was not even needed. It was just to work in more special effects. Engineering features retinal scanner that only scans, I guess eye fluid? It was back in Blade Runner territory on that one.
Boring, disappointing and action packed this stupid show is should be called Star Trek Disappointment. They need everyone to die in a final episode to wash Trek clean. Watch The Orville, its closer to Star Trek than this mess!
Im now up to episode 9 and the heavy handedness is of toxic proportions.
This show is such a disaster I may skip to the last episode just in the hopes they go in a Rogue 1 direction and KILL ALL THESE AWFUL CHARACTERS, SHIPS AND PLOTS!
Do Not Engage with this garbage!

Life under Trump is pretty stark and frightening. He tries hard to keep us fixated on him and seems to love tormenting the American People. There seems no end to his despicable actions and harsh words.
The one light in the black? You can harvest some of the BEST EVER UNUSED Punk Band Names from his crazy rantings!
Throw in the always jaw dropping headlines Trump’s serial bad behavior and crush on Putin always generate and there’s band names enough for Oprah to have a giveaway! Take one and make some seriously punk music!
Heres some examples of bands I WOULD pay to see if anyone had the initiative to form them-
The list will grow until president shitheel is out of office! Updates will be added when I hear something sufficiently Punk.
The biggest story right now isn’t the speculation Trump is suffering from a cognitive disorder (he is) or that he will BLOW OFF HIS MEDICAL EXAM next week (he so will) but that at his behest the Justice Department has, according to CNN just a few minutes ago, has launched a Criminal Investigation (so maybe at some point even raiding?) the Clinton Foundation. Its a Dictators move and Sessions will, I suppose, have that added to the list of charges he’s confronted with at a future American Nuremburg Trial. For whatever reason the Little Rock location was mentioned conspicuously. Probably just a personal slight.
This frightening move puts him squarely in the corner of other autocrats from Hitler to Idi Amin.
It seem that Money for Access is the purported focus of the probe. It probably turns up nothing. If it does catch even the smallest irregularity trust me SCROTUS trump will let us know. Over and over.
This is much bigger than the indisputable fact that Trump’s got dementia or worse or that he’s Bill Cosby and Harvey Weinstein rolled up into one.
Irrelevant Jeff Sessions has had a banner couple of days. Yesterday he moved to take away the PTSD medicine for every veteran in about 14 states and today he’s attacking a charity.
Why? Because our corrupt presidents charity never remitted and was just a way to enrich himself at the cost of Cancer kids. So of course he’s just sure that the Clinton Foundation is a front as well.
Its EASY to believe the president would pass a polygragh regarding his belief that the Clinton Foundation is corrupt. He can look in the mirror and see corruption right there.
So freak out that he’s crazy, I am, but take note that today Trump began persecuting his political enemies with the apparatus of the state.
Liberty has not been so greatly endangered since the Alien & Sedition Acts of 1798 passed by John Fuckin Adams.
Next most disturbing development of the day (its just about 11 am) would be certified (By Paul Ryan
and Steve Scalise) Putin Puppet Dana Rohrabacher in the following segment screaming over poor Ana Cabrera that the entire Mueller Probe is directed by CNN and the media. Freedom was nice while we had it I guess.
